I don't know. Better goalies, better defenders, different refereeing, back-pass rules, VAR, comedy lightweight balls. Difficult to say.

a thousand apologies.

point being it's much harder to score goals these days than back in 1966.

Dunno about 'foot-shape', but it's FEWER not less.

So there...

Re: ⚽ Tottenham v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
Brenty of course keepers are bigger now than 1966. Ludo was considered a giant in the 90's but he'd be average for a keeper now.

I'm looking forward to seeing someone changing the shape of their foot.

The average goals per game in the Premier League's first season, was 2.64.

Last season it was 2.69.

Ag, all I said was players these days tend to go for those curling just inside the far post type finishes which usually miss instead of just leathering at the goal or just driving it low at the goal which imho is more effective as it either goes in or rebounds off a defender or the keeper giving the forwards another chance.

Brenty hasn't invented "foot shape" as part of a private language.

I've seen it before.

Re: ⚽ Tottenham v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
I could be wrong but I wouldn't say keepers are on average taller these days, or that more goals are scored.
Balls are lighter for sure.

Re: ⚽ Tottenham v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
sorry - less goals scored nowadays.

the dots pointing to it being harder to score.

Re: ⚽ Tottenham v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
hahaha okay Ron Manager.

by 'foot shape' you mean the part of the foot you use. i've not know anyone adapt the shape of their foot before.

RE your reference to a hat trick scored 56 years ago, how about joining a few dots.......

footballs are lighter these days
goalkeepers are taller
the goals are the same size
there are more goals scored nowadays

Re: ⚽ Tottenham v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 3-1
Goose -Foot shape, if you want to place the ball then you would generally use the inside of your foot,, volley would be more the top of your foot, curled shot would be the front/inside/top of the foot.

Hurst's 3rd in 66 is a good example, as I think nowadays you wouldn't see a player just belt it from that position. Obviously I'm generalising but I've noticed a big increase in players trying to curl the ball inside the far post which usually misses, instead of just driving it at the goal or placing it either side of the keeper.

Yea, forget about the bread and butter 3 points on a Saturday afternoon, let's just focus on beating Barcelona (if we beat Lyon) Bewildering stuff.

FOOT SHAPE??? what the fuck is foot shape??

I love that your reference point for strikers in 2022 is the 1966 world cup final.

In the EPL this season we generally lose by one goal when being defeated. Twice though, to Arsenal ( 0-2 ) and Spurs ( 1-3 ) it has been a two goal margin.

This team of ours does not get hammered.

You guys crack me up....
I don't recall the majority of Jimmy greave's goals being poncy giving the keeper the eyes curled shots just inside the post, that's a newish thing.
Anyone for Geoff Hurst's 3rd in the WC final?

Obviously body & foot shape is important to keep the ball down or to add a bit of direction, you know I'm right.

Happy to offer Moyes my services as an attacking coach as we clearly don't have one.
